Mechanical Specs

Recall 1

On 7th July 2006, Nissan recalled certain passenger vehicles equipped with 2.5l engine; the crank angle sensor in these vehicles was affected by temperature variations.

Under certain driving conditions, these variations in temperature can be large enough to cause a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor.

If the interruption in the signal from the sensor is so brief that the electronic control module (ECM) logic does not have time to diagnose the condition, the engine may stop running without warning while the vehicle is driven at a low speed thus increasing the risk of a crash. 294166 units were involved in this recall.

Recall 2

On 21st July 2006, Nissan recalled certain passenger vehicles equipped with 2.5l engine; these vehicles experienced excessive engine oil consumption as a result of improper performance of the piston rings. If the oil is not maintained at least at the minimum level, engine damage can occur and in extreme cases result in an engine fire.

Dealers reprogrammed the Electronic Control Module (ECM or engine computer). If you want your vehicle also to be inspected to determine if it has been consuming engine oil at a higher than normal rate, you can contact the dealers. In a small percentage of vehicles, engine replacement may be needed.

Remedy:

DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM OR ENGINE COMPUTER). YOUR VEHICLE WILL ALSO BE INSPECTED TO DETERMINE IF IT HAS BEEN CONSUMING ENGINE OIL AT A HIGHER THAN NORMAL RATE. IN A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF VEHICLES, ENGINE REPLACEMENT WILL BE NEEDED. ON JUNE 9, 2006, NISSAN NOTIFIED OWNERS OF THE POSSIBILITY OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND THE IMPORTANCE OF MAINTAINING THE OIL AT A PROPER LEVEL. FOLLOW-UP LETTER TO OWNERS ADVISING THEM OF THE STATUS OF THE RECALL WAS SENT DURING AUGUST 2006. FOLLOWUP LETTER TO OWNERS WAS SENT ON NOVEMBER 15, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

2009 Nissan Sentra Recall

2009 Sentra equipped with the master cylinder has problems with the reduction of brake fluid in the vehicle and the master cylinder reservoir decreases the level, the brake system in the vehicle get indicator lamps, which doesn’t function properly.

If you ignore the warning lamp continuously, the brake circuits in the car may fail and increase the vehicle crash risk.

Dealers will inspect the vehicle and replace the assembly of master cylinder brake. Recall has started in Dec 2009 and end users may contact dealers.

2008 Nissan Sentra Recall

Nissan is recalling the 2008 Sentra equipped with Bosch master cylinders. Due to the irregularity in the machining, the brake master cylinders of body may allow gap in the area of seal.

This may result in the leakage of brake fluid from master cylinder and cause illumination of brake warning light. If it is ignored continuously; due to fluid leakage vehicle crash risk may increase.

Dealers are advised to take necessary actions, and fix the faults at the earliest; get in touch with your nearest Nissan dealership to get it fixed!

Method to Replace Sentra Camshaft Position Sensor

Turn off the ignition of Sentra and remove the key. Open the hood of car and identify the batteries with “Minus” symbol; this is the battery’s negative terminal. Twist the nut on the negative battery cable counterclockwise by using pliers. This loosens the cable. Now, raise the cable on the battery post to cut it off. Identify the camshaft position sensor on the back half of the valve cover. It is right at the rear of Sentra’s oil cap. Here, you will find a single bolt and an electrical plug. Squeeze the tab of electrical plug and pull it out to disconnect the sensor. With pliers, disconnect the bolt of camshaft position sensor.

Hold the camshaft position sensor and pull it out. Put the new camshaft position sensor in place. Tighten the bolt and connect the electrical plug. It is not required to push the tab while connecting. It should be easily snapped in place. Insert the battery cable onto the negative battery post and tighten the screw.
