The first generation Nissan Sentra was a substitute for the Datsun 210 and was the first subcompact automobile in the Nissan lineup. Previously, the Sunny was a rear-wheel drive vehicle, and the B11 crashed the A series (OHV) engine with the help of the E15 SOHC engine of the Datsun 310.

This was the basic car in the United States, which had the Nissan label. In 1983, only E16 engine was available and there wasn’t any additional power-train option. At that time, the engine was mated to a standard 3-speed automatic transmission along with an optional 4-speed manual transmission.

From 1984 to 1987, a 1.7-litre CD17 I4 diesel engine was used, but it was produced in limited number; no wonder, it gained more popularity in very little time. Only few Sentras were designed with front disc brakes and 4 wheel independent suspensions.

This generation models had multiple body styles, including two- and four-door sedans, three-door Sport Coupe, the hatchback, and the station wagon. In 1985, the B12 chassis was used for the first time in all parts of the globe. It was first released in US markets during 1986. In 1987, instead of the Sport Coupe, all Sentras came traditional with the E16 that could generate 69 hp (51 kW), mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

B13 (1991-1994)

For this generation, the sedans came with the fuel injected 1.6 L GA16DE engine, which could produce 110 hp. At that time, it was produced in the Limited Edition, SE, GXE, XE, E, and base trims.

The Limited Edition and GXE were produced with power package like power mirrors/locks/windows, whereas the SE-R, SE, and XE were produced with alloy wheels and sunroof.

4-door models were equipped with front power shoulder seatbelts. In Mexico, this was the first generation, which was marketed with the Santa label.

B14 (1995-1999)

The Sentra was modified from a free rear suspension to a torsion beam unit in 1995. Few versions were not packed with a rear disc brakes or a rear swaybar. Most of these
automobiles were designed with the 1.6 liter DOHC engine, which had a standard 5 speed manual transmission and Variable Intake Valve Timing Control System (NVTCS) of Nissan. These models could achieve impressive fuel economy of 30-40 MPG, which varied as per road conditions.

B15 (2000-2006)

The B15 Sentra SE trim was developed from 2000 to 2006, and it delivered

• 136 lb-ft (184 N-m) of torque, and
• 145 hp (108 kW) of power.

At that time, a 1.8 L QG18DE QG18DE engine replaced the 1.6 L GA16DE engine. Over the earlier generation, plenty of improvements were made. The fresh model comprised of an upgraded interior that featured clear headlights and body-side moldings.

B16 (2007-Present)

Nissan prefaced the current generation Sentra in 2007 at the North American International Auto Show. It is currently marketed as a medium sized sedan over the B15 model.
